The BIOS Lighting Compatibility Guide

Introduction

BIOS Lighting is a NASA spin-off that launched in 2014 on the Florida Space Coast. BIOS' roots have deep ties to the Space Life Sciences Lab (SLSL) and Kennedy Center where the team lead lighting projects to grow plants in space and to help astronauts regulate sleep patterns on the International Space Station where the sun rises and sets every 90 minutes orbiting the Earth. BIOS has a collective experience of more than 50 years in lighting research and development and are listed on more than 30 patents. BIOS develops innovative lighting solutions to help plants thrive, with LED grow lights for all types of businesses, including indoor cultivation, greenhouses, and indoor vertical farming.

Are BIOS lights dimmable?

BIOS offers a wide range of lights that utilize horticulture grade LED power supplies, which are all dimmable with a 0-10v interface. The company's Icarus LI, Li2, LLi, Ti2, and Ti3 Fixtures all utilize dimmable LED power supplies.

Do BIOS lights dim to off?

All dimmable BIOS lights feature dim to off, which allows the LED driver to completely power down the light through the 0-10V interface. This eliminates the need for timers, relays, contactor panels, and switched circuits on the mains AC wiring, potentially saving a lot of money on installation. The GrowFlux Universal Dimmer includes enhanced support for dim to off when connected to many LED drivers, ensuring growers that lights are reliably turning off.

How to connect BIOS lights to the GrowFlux Universal Dimmer

The Icarus Li, Ti2, and Ti3 fixtures use a 5-pin dimming connector. This connector can be mated to GrowFlux's Universal Dimmer by ordering the Bios 5-pin pigtail cable (part number BP-0ACC-000-000007-1, pictured below) and wiring it to a GrowFlux Screw Terminal Adapter cable (part number GFX-DIMA-ST) to create a completely sealed interface in minutes. Both GrowFlux and BIOS offer daisy chain cabling to interface the dimming signal to up to 50 lights.

The Icarus Li2 and LLi fixtures use a 3-pin M12 size dimming connector. This connector can be mated to GrowFlux's Universal Dimmer by ordering the Bios 3-pin pigtail cable (part number BP-0ACC-000-350001-1, pictured below) and wiring it to a GrowFlux Screw Terminal Adapter cable (part number GFX-DIMA-ST)

Both the BIOS 3-pin and 5-pin pigtail cables have the same color coding: the purple wire is the DIM+ terminal, and the grey wire is the DIM- terminal. These two wires interface to GrowFlux's 2-pin Screw Terminal Adapter cable as shown below:

How many BIOS lights can I dim at once?

Up to 50 BIOS lights can be connected to one GrowFlux Universal Dimmer; connecting more than this number of lights may result in unpredictable behavior and may void your warranty. The dimming signal can be daisy chained to multiple lights with tees and extension cables.
